Before Endodontic Treatment
The procedure will most commonly be performed using local anesthesia alone (just like for a filling). There are usually no restrictions after the endodontic procedure unless a form of sedation is utilized.
Continue taking all medications for any conditions as recommended by your physician. If there is a question, please call our office prior to your appointment.
If you have been advised by your physician or dentist to use antibiotic pre-medication (prophylaxis) for any reason, please make sure you take the appropriate antibiotic at the correct timing according to your physician’s or dentist’s instructions (usually one hour in advance of your scheduled appointment time with Dr. Angell). These instructions are valid for both examination and treatment appointments. If there is a question, please call our office prior to your appointment.
If you have already had an examination appointment with Dr. Angell and if you are able to take either ibuprofen (Advil/Motrin) or acetaminophen (Tylenol), a pre-operative dose of an anti-inflammatory medicine will assist with profoundness of local anesthesia and also will assist in reducing post-operative discomfort. We recommend Ibuprofen 600mg/800mg or Acetaminophen 1000mg 1 hour before your endodontic treatment appointment.
Please do NOT take any form of NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) or other (narcotic) pain medicine within at least 4 hours prior to any examination or examination/treatment appointment with Dr. Angell as the medication may diminish examination responses and hinder diagnosis of your condition.
